if any of the features of the respective instruments is an advantage or a disadvantage is - quite literally - in the eye of the beholder.
Brands are many.
There Is not much difference in 7x42 vs 8x42 they are usually minor 8x you have a slight increase in power distance 7x is what I have heard good for older viewers eyes or easier on the eyes but that is negotiable.in 7x42 in most cases the field of view is wider but not always true you will find many 8x42s with wide field of view.The Swift porro 8.5x44 has a 430 ft. of view is just one example it is best to look through different models in 7x42 and 8x42 there are many good ones Brunton ,Bushnell,Kowa , Swift,Vortex,Nikon, Pentax or the very expensive Leica, Swarovski and Zeiss.There are more makes and models and all are very good it depends what you like and can afford in your budget but the differences are minimal ones in my opinion.
